The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. There are more than 71 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 94 percent — more than 68 million customers — receive their gas from AGA members. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States' energy needs.
AGA is seeking candidates for the following positions:
Managing Director, Safety, Operations & Engineering Advocacy
The Managing Director will lead AGA’s natural gas pipeline safety and operations advocacy efforts, including strategy development, background research, regulatory analysis, development of comments, and preparation of docket filings. S/he will advocate AGA positions before the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives (NAPSR) and will develop materials and provide advocacy support in connection with congressional hearings, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) hearings and investigations, and Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigations. The Managing Director will be Staff Executive to the Operations Safety Regulatory Action Committee and will serve on AGA task groups and industry teams seeking to develop and implement regulatory objectives.
The position requires knowledge in regulations and standards relevant to the natural gas distribution and intrastate transmission industry, preferably with experience dealing with operations and safety issues; working knowledge of natural gas distribution and transmission systems, pipeline safety and occupational safety legislation; ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly, both orally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical audiences; ability to successfully negotiate with outside organizations and regulatory agencies; ability to facilitate meetings of individuals with diverse opinions into consensus positions.
Candidates must have earned an engineering degree, law degree, or equivalent experience in natural gas pipeline design, construction, operations and maintenance; have experience preparing and submitting responses to proposed regulations to regulatory agencies; have successfully completed from start to finish in determining the impact of a proposed rule or legislation, developing a consensus position and bringing forth the position to the regulatory agency through either comments submitted or negotiation; have demonstrated successful project management skills within budget and timeline.

Engineering Services Manager
The manager will administer the work of the Operations and Engineering Section technical committee(s), task groups and other O&E Section programs; provide technical and staff support for AGA’s Peer to Peer Review program as well as industry data collection, analysis, and summaries; organize and conduct industry workshops, seminars, conferences and roundtables by developing agendas, confirming speakers, leading discussions, and potentially giving presentations; stay abreast of industry developments and assist Managing Director, Engineering Services in determining appropriate short-term and long-term plans for the Engineering group.
The position requires general knowledge of natural gas distribution and transmission systems; awareness of regulations affecting the natural gas industry; excellent communications skills, both oral and written; ability to communicate technical issues, both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences; excellent facilitation skills and the ability to develop, organize and conduct workshops and technical programs from start to finish and the ability to develop and deliver presentations in public forums. The successful candidate will have the ability to successfully work on multi-disciplinary teams to accomplish team goals. The ability to integrate diverse opinions into consensus positions for AGA membership, manage projects within established budgets and timetables and the ability to recognize and implement opportunities to generate revenue are essential. Project managerial skills, ability to use personal computers for engineering analysis and routine business, including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs and the ability to travel are required.
Candidates must have experience in natural gas industry operations, preferably gas distribution or intrastate transmission. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred (or equivalent industry experience).
