Distribution Construction and Maintenance

To collect, develop and disseminate technical data and information with specific reference to:
  1. Field practices and procedures, tools, and equipment utilized in the construction, maintenance, operation and inspection of distribution systems and the components of such systems.
  2. The development of surveys, testing practices and other procedures utilized in the evaluation of distribution systems and the components of such systems.
  3. Crew organization, job training, field communication and records and record systems as these pertain to the construction and maintenance of distribution systems and the components thereof.
  4. The development of equipment, programs, and practices to minimize damage to distribution facilities from outside forces.
  5. The development of innovative programs to encourage employee development, job enrichment and productivity gains.
  6. Development, advancement, and application of the materials management concept, encompassing procurement, purchasing, materials handling, expediting traffic and inventory control, whereby the materials function is viewed from a broad company viewpoint.
  7. Sharing best practices and development of procedures for safe, reliable and cost-effective delivery of natural gas throughout the construction and maintenance of gas distribution systems in compliance with standards and codes. Investigate new technologies as related to our areas of interest.
  8. Sharing and development of innovative methods of procuring, operating, maintaining and disposing of fleet vehicles and work equipment in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
  9. Sponsor programs, papers and presentations within the industry at related technical symposiums.
  10. Develop and publish committee reports and technical papers and provide liaison with and encourage liaison from appropriate national and international industry groups, professional associations and other committees for the exchange of information and technical assistance relative to areas of interest.

Products and Services

Major services include Best Practices Benchmarking within the field of distribution, construction and maintenance, publication of reference materials, which include "Impact of Regulations on Operator Certification", "Gas Engineering and Operating Practices Series", and to provide Section leadership on third party damage prevention issues.

Interaction with other AGA Committees/Outside Committees

This committee is one of 13 committees that report to the Operating Section Managing Committee. The committee also works closely with the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and the American Public Works Association.

Meetings

The committee meets twice a year. The annual planning meeting is usually held in the late spring. Additional meetings may be held as required and upon approval of the Managing Committee.
