Plastic Materials

To collect, develop and disseminate technical data and information with specific reference to:
  1. The evaluation of new plastic materials for gas piping systems. 
  2. The development and evaluation of new fabrication techniques for plastic gas piping systems. 
  3. The performance of plastic materials in gas piping systems. 
  4. To sponsor programs and papers, cooperative effort in related technical symposiums, the development of articles for publication. 
  5. To foster research areas related to committee activities, including the definition of problems and the collection of data pertinent to the research and development of specific research proposals. 
  6. To provide liaison with appropriate industry groups, professional associations and other committees for the exchange of information and technical assistance relative to the concerned areas of interest.

Members determine and disseminate information that will promote evaluation of plastic materials and new fabrication techniques for gas piping systems.

Products and Services

Major services include support of the International Plastic Fuel Gas Pipe Symposium, publication of the AGA “Plastic Pipe Manual for Gas Service”, establishment of the P.E. Pipe Design Equation, survey and review of Pre-1975 Plastic Distribution System Material Performance and preparation of a “tool box” for use in evaluating plastic pipe for distribution integrity.

Interaction with other AGA Committees/Outside Organizations

This committee is one of 14 committees that report to the Operating Section Managing Committee. The committee also works closely with the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI), the International Standards Organization (ISO), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Gas Technology Institute (GTI).

Meetings

The committee meets twice a year. Additional meetings may be held, if required and approved by the Operating Section Managing Committee.
