Provide a forum for discussion of:

  1. Acquisition, development and operation of underground gas storage projects.
  2. The role of underground storage as a result of:
    • Restraints of supply and possible new use of supplemental fuels,
    • Public concerns - environment, safety, aesthetics, and
    • New and impending rules, regulations, codes and legislation.
  3. The science and art of exploring for, drilling, producing and storing natural gas.

Typical Committee Member

Managers or directors of underground storage departments.

Benefits Of Committee Membership

By committee membership, industry engineers broaden their own competence by meeting contemporaries and sharing state-of-the-art-engineering information. Benefits also include work on industry technical references and forums, to help provide cost savings and other benefit to the entire gas industry.

Products and Services

Triennial survey of Underground Gas Storage Facilities in the U.S. and Canada.  Biennial workshop for storage operators on subjects such as well testing, delivery enhancement, 3-D seismic studies and cavern storage.

Interaction with AGA Committees/Outside Organizations

Liaison with the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) for underground gas storage review and input.  Liaison with the Gas Control Committee, Corrosion Control Committee, Environmental Matters Committee and Supplemental Gas Committee.  

Meetings

Meets twice a year in the spring and fall.  An additional meeting may be held, if required and approved by the Operating Section Managing Committee.
