On February 21, 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency finalized a rule, the EPA Boiler MACT, to reduce air toxic emissions from new and existing industrial, institutional, and commercial boilers and process heaters. The rule will have implications for facilities with coal and oil-fired units. Clean energy strategies for compliance could include natural gas and combined heat and power creating opportunities for natural gas utilities.
