 AGA Cybersecurity Member Update (Audioconference)

Audio Conference - 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT

(Open to AGA Full and Limited Members Only)

AGA’s initiatives and actions ensure that Federal policies address gas utility physical infrastructure and cyber security concerns. Federal oversight of natural gas utility security is shared in various ways among different government agencies and divisions depending upon the gas operations under question. The Federal government has designated 18 critical infrastructure sectors; the natural gas industry falls within the Energy Sector. AGA is a primary resource for its members to stay abreast of the Federal government’s security-related initiatives. AGA is actively engaged in many physical and cyber security issues.

At the current time there is competing draft legislation - with diametrically opposing language - regarding the Federal government’s role in private sector cyber security programs.  Senators Lieberman and Collins have introduced Cybersecurity Act of 2012, (S. 2105) that would give DHS full regulatory authority over the security of cyber systems in the private sector determined by the government to be critical. Senator McCain’s SECURE IT Act legislation favors increased public-private cyber security information sharing rather than critical infrastructure regulatory mandates. AGA continues to support the McCain bill.

AGA has developed Talking Points on this entire matter, which have been shared with AGA members, and will also host a teleconference on Friday, June 1st to further update AGA members on recent legislative cyber security activity.

The web conference is scheduled for Friday, June 1 from 11.00 AM - 12.00 PM EDT.  Please consider coordinating within your organization to use a conference room for multiple people to participate in the audio conference.
