Introduction to Public Utility Accounting Course

The American Gas Association and Edison Electric Institute are pleased to announce an additional offering of the Introduction to Public Utility Accounting course in March 2008. 

AGA and EEI will be conducting this three and one-half day introductory program on public utility accounting.  This course is taught by expert instructors and respected leaders in the field. 
 This course concentrates on the fundamentals of public utility accounting and provides an understanding of the utility business.  This course is geared towards recently hired accountants and supervisory positions in the accounting, auditing, and financial areas.

Topics Should Include:

  • Accounting for Regulation
  • Capital Structure and Liability Management
  • Current Gas and Electric Industry Issues
  • Depreciation Accounting Principles
  • Income Tax — Ratemaking and Accounting Issues
  • Introduction to Derivatives
  • Planning and Budgeting Issues and Approaches
  • Property Accounting
  • Regulatory Ratemaking and Risk & Return Factors
  • Public Utility Accounting and Financial Reporting
