Delivering the Promises of Natural Gas in 2013 and Beyond

Incoming AGA Chairman Outlines Role of Natural Gas in America’s Economic Recovery

Washington, D.C. – Ron Jibson believes that every American should have access to the benefits of natural gas. The Chairman, President and CEO of Questar Corp. in Salt Lake City, Jibson will be Chairman of the American Gas Association (AGA) in 2013. At an event at AGA headquarters in Washington, DC this morning, Jibson outlined how America’s natural gas utilities will deliver the promises of natural gas in 2013 and beyond.

“For more than 177 million Americans, natural gas provides warmth and a hot shower, fuel to cook meals and wash and dry clothes. Our companies make people’s lives better on a daily basis by delivering essential energy,” Jibson said. “We can do more. This nation has significant opportunity presented by the incredible abundance of clean, affordable natural gas right here at home. Greater use of natural gas can boost our economy, enhance our national security and improve our environment.”

Jibson discussed several priorities for making his vision a reality including expanding and upgrading infrastructure to continue to safely and reliably deliver gas to customers, expanding the use of natural gas in transportation, investing in efficient technologies like combined heat and power, and working alongside clean and renewable energy sources to build a clean energy portfolio without sacrificing economic growth.

Ron Jibson has been with Questar Corporation for 32 years. He started as a design engineer and has held the positions of executive vice president, vice president of operations, general manager of operations, operations manager and director of engineering.

Jibson was AGA’s representative in discussions on industry preparedness during the formation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. Now, he is leading an effort by the AGA Board of Directors to help member companies reduce the risk of cybersecurity attacks.

“The top priority for AGA and its members is safety. Delivering energy in the 21st century comes with new challenges. America’s natural gas utilities are taking the actions necessary to minimize cyber vulnerabilities and implementing security measures that do not disrupt the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to our customers.”

The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. There are more than 71 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 94 percent — over 68 million customers — receive their gas from AGA members. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States' energy needs.
