Washington, D.C. —The American Gas Association (AGA) applauds Reps. John Sullivan (R-OK), Dan Boren (D-OK), John Larson (D-CT) and Kevin Brady (R-TX) for their introduction today of H.R. 1380, the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions (NAT GAS) Act. The NAT GAS Act will help reduce America’s reliance on foreign energy supplies by encouraging the use of abundant, domestic natural gas in U.S. transportation sector.
“The provisions contained in the NAT GAS Act offer a viable roadmap for helping Americans take the next step toward a cleaner, more efficient transportation future by encouraging meaningful investments in natural gas vehicles (NGV),” said Dave McCurdy, president and CEO of AGA. “This legislation will help drive our clean energy economy forward by creating jobs and enhancing our energy security.”
The NAT GAS Act proposes tax incentives for the purchase and production of natural gas-fueled vehicles, for building fueling stations and for using natural gas as a transportation fuel. In addition, the bill puts forth a new tax credit for auto manufacturers to encourage production of NGVs. The support provided by these incentives will help provide more American families and businesses with a clean North American transportation fuel choice.
The bill focuses on the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel for fleet vehicles. Replacing traditionally fueled fleet vehicles with natural gas-powered alternatives will have a significant and positive environmental impact.
AGA strongly encourages Congress and the administration to support the NAT GAS Act and the development and use of North American natural gas resources to support cleaner, more efficient transportation options and enhanced energy security.
