AGA Applauds $450M for Low-Income Energy Assistance
Washington, D.C. – The American Gas Association (AGA) today praised the Bush Administration for releasing $450 million in emergency funding to assist low-income families struggling to heat their homes this winter.
“The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides a vital safety net for low-income households,” said Vivian Lausevic, director, government affairs for AGA. “Each year, this program plays a crucial role by helping senior citizens and the less advantaged remain healthy and warm by providing financial assistance to help them manage rising energy costs.”
“LIHEAP helps millions of Americans maintain a basic standard of living by being able to afford to heat their homes,” noted Lausevic. “AGA’s natural gas utility members know firsthand the challenge faced by millions of our nation’s disadvantaged citizens who, because of their financial circumstances, must choose between staying warm or eating. We thank President Bush for providing this necessary lifeline to our most vulnerable citizens and call on him to provide additional assistance in his economic stimulus package."
