 AGA Announces LNG17 Global Conference

Association to host largest-ever event of its kind in 2013; Houston, TX

The world needs a diverse energy portfolio –and LNG is ready to and available to be a part of that equation

Washington, D.C. — The American Gas Association (AGA) today is pleased to announce it will host the premier event for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry: the 17th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas, or LNG 17.  Slated for April 16-19, 2013 in Houston, TX, LNG 17 will bring global energy stakeholders to the world’s largest natural gas consuming country – the United States – to discuss current and future opportunities for this valuable fuel source.

The potential for LNG to contribute to the world’s energy mix is boundless.  Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel on the market, and because LNG is simply natural gas cooled to extremely cold temperatures, it can play a major role in helping countries reach their carbon reduction goals.  And the LNG industry continues to grow at a rapid pace. In 2009 alone, there was a 20 percent growth in worldwide LNG capacity.  It is anticipated that there will be 28 importing nations by 2012.

“The world needs a diverse energy portfolio –and LNG is ready to and available to be a part of that equation,” said David N. Parker, AGA president and CEO.  “The supply is here and the infrastructure is here and growing to bring this fuel to emerging markets.  We’re excited for the opportunity to help shine a spotlight on this significant energy source.”

The LNG world conferences are held every three years, and alternate between LNG producing and consuming countries.  This year’s event, LNG16, was held earlier this week in Oran, Algeria.  For more information about the event, visit www.lng17.org.

The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. There are more than 71 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 94 percent — over 68 million customers — receive their gas from AGA members. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States' energy needs.
