Radio ads encourage increased energy efficiency, home weatherization
Washington, D.C. — The American Gas Association (AGA) today launched a public service announcement (PSA) campaign on radio stations across the country encouraging Americans to be more earth friendly – and save money – by taking a few simple steps to improve their home’s energy efficiency. Although the ads were created in honor of Earth Day, AGA’s hope is that the messages will permeate throughout the year.
“America’s natural gas utilities and their customers have made huge strides in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions the past few decades,” said David Parker, AGA president and CEO. “Common sense steps such as sealing drafty doors and windows and switching to high-efficiency natural gas appliances can make a huge difference in a home’s emissions output and energy costs.”
Thanks to improvements in home energy efficiency, natural gas users have lowered their greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent since 1970 – despite the fact that the number of customers has doubled since that time. America’s natural gas utilities have demonstrated their commitment to promoting energy efficiency by offering cash rebates and low-interest financing for high-efficiency natural gas appliance purchases, and providing home energy audits and weatherization kits.
AGA’s PSA campaign also includes information about the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and how it can help eligible Americans offset weatherization costs and energy-related home repairs.
“Our aim is for the campaign to serve as a friendly reminder to all Americans that there is energy, time and money to be saved,” said Parker. “If even a small portion of listeners take action, the earth will be a cleaner place.”
