Natural gas can be found in abundance on American soil, with more than 100 years of supply at our fingertips. This clean, efficient, affordable fuel is available right now for home heating, cooking, water heating and power generation. AGA supports open access to our country’s vast resources of natural gas, both onshore and offshore.
Washington, D.C. — The American Gas Association (AGA) today released the following statement in response to the administration’s proposal for domestic energy production:
“In this time of economic insecurity, Americans should be able to rely on homegrown energy resources. To that end, AGA is encouraged by our administration’s plan to open new areas of the mid-and-south Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico to energy exploration. This is a positive first step towards securing our country’s energy independence.
“Natural gas can be found in abundance on American soil, with more than 100 years of supply at our fingertips. This clean, efficient, affordable fuel is available right now for home heating, cooking, water heating and power generation. AGA supports open access to our country’s vast resources of natural gas, both onshore and offshore.
“In order to fully capitalize on America’s supply potential, AGA urges the administration to allow exploration of lands that are currently open for natural gas and oil production but are not being tapped, such as the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). These energy-rich areas can and should be explored in order to steer us away from foreign resources and to help keep costs down for American consumers.
“With the right policy decisions from our lawmakers, AGA’s 195 member utilities will continue to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to their 64 million U.S. natural gas customers for many years to come.”
