Washington, D.C. – American Gas Association President and CEO, Dave McCurdy, today congratulated President Obama and Vice President Biden on their victorious campaign, releasing the following statement:
“From its role in economic development to what it means for our national security, President Obama has recognized the many benefits of natural gas, and AGA looks forward to continuing to work with his Administration and the 113th Congress to bring the many benefits of this foundation fuel to America.
“It is only through smart, efficient policies and coordination with policy makers at all levels that we will be able to meet our nation’s energy goals, and there is no doubt natural gas has a significant role in our energy future. The President has advanced policies to help realize the realities of what this domestic fuel can do for our nation, but there is still significant room for greater use of natural gas to help meet our nation’s energy goals.
“America’s natural gas utilities operate the 21st century infrastructure necessary for delivering the benefits of natural gas to American homes and businesses safely, reliably and at affordable prices. Our nation has an unprecedented domestic supply of natural gas that can meet our current and even increased demands at reasonable and relatively stable prices. Natural gas utilities can make the most of this promise by working with customers and local policy makers to leverage the efficient use of natural gas in thermal applications, expand access to natural gas vehicle fueling infrastructure, increase the use of combined heat and power technologies, and explore how micro-grids can help communities address their energy needs. We want to make sure all Americans have access to this domestic fuel.
“Greater recognition of the benefits of natural gas in federal and state regulation, legislation, building energy codes, appliance standards and energy policy initiatives will open new doors to increased energy efficiency and energy security and we look forward to working with President Obama, Vice President Biden and the 113th Congress to advance these goals for our nation and its citizens.”
