Washington, D.C. – America’s abundance of natural gas is a game changer throughout the world and The American Gas Association (AGA) is participating in an international conversation about the future of this clean energy source. AGA applauds a report released today at the World Gas Conference which seeks to educate the public about the production and distribution of natural gas from shale formations.
“The United States is an internationally recognized leader in the natural gas industry because of our abundant supply of this clean source of energy and our drive to develop this resource in a sustainable and responsible manner,” said Dave McCurdy, president and CEO of AGA. “As other nations seek to develop their unconventional natural gas resources, we are proud to work with the International Gas Union in leading the charge to promote responsible development practices worldwide.”
At The 25th World Gas Conference currently taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the International Gas Union presented a report entitled Myths vs Facts on Shale Gas. The report aims to clear common myths and misconceptions which have led some unconventional gas developments to be put on hold," said Mr Ho Sook Wah, Chairman, Coordination Committee 2009-2012, International Gas Union.
The report states, “In recent years, North America has taken the lead on unprecedented developments in the natural gas industry. The region not only hosts the largest natural gas markets in the world, but it is also reshaping itself and setting new trends worldwide.”
AGA Chairman Larry Borgard is currently leading a delegation at the World Gas Conference where he is a featured speaker. America’s natural gas utilities have been a strong voice for responsible development of our domestic natural gas resources. AGA published a set of resource development principles in May 2011 and in February 2012, AGA released Turning Principles Into Action, a report on natural gas resource development that points to responsible and sustainable practices in action.
AGA is hosting the conversations that will shape the next decades in the natural gas industry worldwide. In April 2013, we will host The 17th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG 17) - the largest global gas event of the year - in Houston, TX. AGA will also host the next World Gas Conference in Washington, D.C. in June 2018 and hold the Presidency of the International Gas Union from 2015-2018.
