 David M. McClanahan Receives AGA’s Distinguished Service Award   

 
   
Washington, D.C. – The American Gas Association (AGA) is pleased to announce it has presented the 2013 Distinguished Service Award to David M. McClanahan, president and CEO of CenterPoint Energy based in Houston, Texas. Mr. McClanahan received this honor on Monday, October 14, 2013, during the AGA Executive Conference in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

“David’s leadership and dedication has played a pivotal role in driving and securing several of AGA’s priority initiatives” said AGA Chairman Ron Jibson. “It is with great esteem, appreciation and honor that we present this award to David for his service to AGA and our industry.”

Mr. McClanahan has been a member of the AGA Board of Directors since 2001, serving as Chairman of the Board in 2008. In addition, Mr. McClanahan has served on nearly 20 AGA committees. He joined CenterPoint in 1972, holding a variety of positions in information systems, accounting and treasury before being named assistant secretary and assistant treasurer in 1983. In 1986, he was named vice president and comptroller of Houston Industries, Incorporated, predecessor to CenterPoint Energy. In 1990, he was named senior vice president and chief financial officer of KBLCOM, the company's previously owned cable television subsidiary. He held that position until 1993, when he was named group vice president of finance and regulatory relations, and later executive vice president of energy delivery and customer service for Houston Lighting & Power Company. He was named president and COO of HL&P in 1997. In 1999, he became president and COO of Reliant Energy Regulated Group and served as vice chairman of Reliant Energy, positions he held until assuming his current role.

McClanahan has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with honors from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston. He is also a certified public accountant.

He serves on the Boards of Directors of the American Gas Association, the Edison Electric Institute, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center (Chairman), United Way of Greater Houston (Chairman), the Greater Houston Partnership and University of Houston Energy Advisory Board. He is Past Chairman of Central Houston and the Boards of the University of St. Thomas and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas.
