Washington, D.C. — The American Gas Association (AGA) today released the following statement in response to pipeline safety recommendations issued by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The recommendations were made as part of NTSB’s ongoing investigation into the pipeline rupture and explosion that occurred in San Bruno, CA, on September 9, 2010:
“AGA commends the NTSB’s ongoing investigation and is encouraged by the recent focused recommendations on the need for operators to have accurate records that ensure pipelines are operating at proper pressure. AGA fully supports any recommendations designed to improve pipeline safety.
Without question, safety is the number one priority of our industry. As this process continues, we look forward to learning more about the possible causes of this tragic incident, as well as additional recommendations for improving the natural gas utility industry’s already strong record of safety.”
