On June 5, 2003 Peter S.J. Lees, Ph.D., CIH submitted the report titled Assessment of Asbestos Fiber Release & Exposure During Mechanical Removal of Coal Tar Wrapped Natural Gas Pipelines to the Niagara Mohawk Corporation. Air sampling was conducted on February 10 - 11, 2003 during the mechanical removal of non-friable asbestos containing coal tar wrap from underground natural gas pipelines. The air sampling was completed to estimate: 1) worker exposure to asbestos fibers, and 2) the magnitude of asbestos fiber release to the environment. This report includes a detailed summary of the pertinent sampling parameters, analytical results, and calculation of airborne fiber concentrations.
