Introduction to State Affairs Program
Meeting Materials October 2013

 State Affairs Committee

The State Affairs Committee serves to develop, promote and advocate policy positions in the state legislative, regulatory and rate arenas. The Committee monitors all state legislative, regulatory and rate related developments that may impact the natural gas industry and seeks to identify trends and develop appropriate strategies for promoting the industry’s interests. As well, the Committee provides a forum for the sharing and dissemination of information. The State Affairs Committee is dedicated to serving as a valuable and trusted resource to NARUC commissioners, governors, attorneys general, state legislators and other state policymakers in their consideration of public policy issues related to the natural gas utility industry.

Who Should Participate:  All full members of AGA are encouraged to participate in the State Affairs Committee.  The Committee will typically consist of individuals within AGA member companies that are responsible for state government relations and/or regulatory affairs as well as those handling rates, pricing, economic analysis, revenue requirements and financial planning.

Benefits of Committee Membership:  The Committee offers members the opportunity to participate in the development and advancement of AGA positions on crucial state legislative and regulatory issues and to develop advanced understanding and cross-fertilization of positions.  It affords members the opportunity to participate in the development of AGA positions on matters related to rate design, economic regulation and state regulatory proceedings and to participate in the exchange of technical information with other AGA members.
