Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB) Natural Gas Subcommittee

Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB) Natural Gas Subcommittee-

Following President Obama’s "Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future," U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu charged the SEAB Natural Gas Subcommittee with recommending safe and environmentally sustainable practices for shale gas development.  The subcommittee released a final report on Nov. 18 calling for immediate implementation of 20 recommendations for air, water and community impact management. AGA filed comments supporting this effort, commending the subcommittee for a report that reflects AGA’s responsible natural gas resource development principles.

On November 21, AGA’s President and CEO Dave McCurdy commented on the final report:
“AGA recognizes that the subcommittee’s recommendation to enhance state efforts to regulate natural gas resource development by providing funding for STRONGER and the Ground Water Protection Council is particularly timely and important. We also agree with the subcommittee’s recommendation that companies quickly and visibly commit to best practices and establish regional centers for operational excellence… However, AGA cautions that the subcommittee’s call to action for federal agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, should defer to the scope of those agencies’ current rulemakings and ongoing effort to complement important work already being done by the states, the industry and other stakeholders.”
