Intern, Energy Markets

The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. There are more than 77 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S., of which 95 percent — more than 73 million customers — receive their gas from AGA members. Today, natural gas meets more than one-third of the United States' energy needs.

AGA is seeking an intern to join its Energy Markets, Analysis, and Standards (EMAS) department to directly support its Energy Markets Team and related efforts in various topics including gas infrastructure utilization, hydrogen and renewable natural gas market and policy analysis, and the creation of tools to bolster the team’s analytical efforts.

The EMAS intern can expect to work collaboratively with AGA staff while developing tools to track and analyze policy, legislation, and utility efforts around hydrogen, renewable natural gas, and energy efficiency.

The internship also exposes the individual to data collection methods, covering industry stakeholder media events and providing staff with key findings as well as reviewing, editing, and analyzing policy and project data.

The EMAS intern will assist the energy markets team, updating tracking documents with projects and legislation, organization of relevant news articles and updates, and dissemination of material information with the Sustainable Growth Committee and the Gas Energy Efficiency Roundtables.

The internship can offer a 3-month project management opportunity for a candidate seeking experience in data collection, federal and state policy analysis, market trends, and advocacy. As project manager, the candidate would be responsible for designing a research strategy, identifying benchmarks, meeting deadlines, and delivering a completed project.

The intern will learn about the latest topics around gas infrastructure and utility initiatives around decarbonization and greenhouse gas emissions and resilience, and cutting-edge solutions to implement net-zero strategies within the gas industry.

The intern will also gain insight into the field of natural gas, gas decarbonization, hydrogen and renewable natural gas policy and projects. AGA professional staff provide mentoring and assistance with professional development skills. This internship will be paid and is available immediately.
