Event Overview

The BTRIC User Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the premier US research facility for developing technologies to improve the energy efficiency and environmental compatibility of residential and commercial building equipment. Its mission is to identify, develop, and deploy energy-efficient technologies by forming partnerships between DOE and industry for technology development and analysis, well-characterized laboratory, and field experiments. Research focuses on heat pumps, heating ventilation & air conditioning, dehumidifiers, appliances, water heaters, refrigeration systems, combined heat and power, and advanced energy storage systems.

ORNL researchers are actively working on technologies to enhance energy efficiency and grid resiliency in residential and commercial buildings while utilizing natural gas fuel. Innovations in the design and development of building equipment such as self-powered heating equipment, combined heat and power systems using engines and fuel cells, hybrid heating systems, high efficiency heat pumps/driers/boilers, are some of the research areas being pursued within the building equipment group. In this presentation, Dr. Praveen Cheekatamarla will overview ORNL R&D activities in the natural gas area.
