Insider threat incidents are possible in any sector or organization. An insider threat typically comes from a current or former employee, third-party contractor, or business partner. In the United States, insider threats cause billions of dollars in damage to organizations each year the result in negative impacts to and for employees, both directly and indirectly. The cost of managing an insider-caused incident and recovery is significantly higher than the cost of establishing and maintaining an insider threat program. To combat the insider threat, organizations can implement a proactive, prevention-focused mitigation program to detect and identify threats, assess risk, and manage the risk, all before an incident occurs. The Insider Threat Mitigation Workshop offered by CISA’s Infrastructure Security Division, provides the public and private sector stakeholders with information regarding potential internal threats. The awareness-level training will provide insights, discuss the consequences of a successful attack or unintended action, and suggest cost-effective measures to mitigate an insider threat within your organization.
