AGA Applauds U.S. Senate for Bipartisan Passage of Pipeline Safety Bill
Washington, D.C. - The American Gas Association (AGA) today applauds the U.S. Senate for passing S. 275, the Pipeline Transportation Safety Improvement Act of 2011. The passage of this bill sends a strong signal that that Senate is committed to pipeline safety. The bipartisan effort that resulted in this vote demonstrates the commitment to getting pipeline safety reauthorization legislation completed this year.
AGA and its member companies have always considered pipeline safety the industry s number one priority and it is commendable to see our nation s political leaders working together to get this legislation passed by a unanimous vote, said Dave McCurdy, AGA president and CEO. Pipeline safety is a non-partisan issue, as it impacts every senator s state and constituents. A unanimous endorsement of this particular bill puts us one step closer to reaching our ultimate goal, which is getting a final bill passed and on the desk for President Obama s signature this year.
Our pipeline operators are already hard at work addressing key safety issues raised during legislative hearings, but reauthorization will provide the ultimate certainty for all pipeline stakeholders, continued McCurdy.
