AGA Comments on the U.S. Energy Secretary’s Shale Gas Production Subcommittee Report
Washington, D.C. - Following is a statement by American Gas Association (AGA) President and CEO Dave McCurdy on the release of a report today by the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board Shale Gas Production Subcommittee:
We commend the subcommittee s effort to further an informed and transparent process on how to better protect public health and the environment in meeting our nation s energy needs through the use of hydraulic fracturing. AGA is encouraged that the report reinforces many of the principles we previously outlined for sustainable and responsible development of natural gas, including full disclosure of the chemistry of hydraulic fracturing fluids through initiatives such as the Ground Water Protection Council s registry, FracFocus.org. AGA member companies recognize that public confidence in our industry s ability to develop this important domestic source of energy will be furthered by open, fact-based dialogue, collaborative actions and public accountability. Through these efforts, robust development of America s foundation fuel clean and abundant natural gas can be a significant resource for economic prosperity, national security, and consumer benefits for the United States.
