AGA Welcomes More Than 12,000 To Washington, DC for Global Gas Conversation
Washington, D.C. – The American Gas Association (AGA) is excited to welcome more than 12,000 people to our nation’s capital for an international discussion about pathways towards natural gas as a foundation fuel for prosperity throughout the world. The 27th World Gas Conference will take place in Washington, DC June 25-29. Held every three years, the world’s largest global gas conference begins with the opening ceremony on the morning of Tuesday, June 26 featuring U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry.
“The United States is both the world’s largest natural gas producer and consumer, making us the ideal host for this global conversation,” said AGA President & CEO Dave McCurdy and also Chair of the National Organizing Committee for the 2018 World Gas Conference. “In the U.S., natural gas has boosted our economy, enhanced our national security and supported renewable energy, leading to energy-related carbon dioxide emissions hitting 25-year lows. We hope to expand that opportunity throughout the world.”
The conference concludes with the closing ceremony on Friday, June 29 where International Gas Union President David Carroll will handover leadership to Joe M. Kang of South Korea. South Korea will host the 28th World Gas Conference in 2021. Throughout the week, 600 speakers from more than 100 countries will share their views on the most timely and topical, technical, commercial and strategic topics related to the natural gas industry. Attendees will also enjoy a 40,000-square meter exhibition that will house 350 exhibitors, including a Sustainable Energy Pavilion, a Robotics and Automation Pavilion and a Gas for Transportation Pavilion.
“I am excited to welcome participants from all over the world to the Unites States for this incredible event,” said Carroll. “The planning process for the 2018 World Gas Conference began even before we accepted the presidency three years ago in Paris. The level of preparation and insight that went into this conference is evident in the caliber of speakers and the program we have put together. It will be an historic week for the energy industry.”
In addition to the WGC2018 keynote sessions, panels and networking events, AGA is also hosting the following:
- For Government Day on Wednesday, June 27, more than 75 Congressional staffers will visit the World Gas Conference. One-hundred and forty Members of Congress serve as honorary members of the National Organizing Committee, and the conference will hear from two cabinet secretaries, two FERC commissioners and four U.S. Senators.
- The 2018 AGA Operations Conference is the natural gas industry’s premier gathering of natural gas utility and transmission company operations management. Twelve-hundred attendees will gather to share technical knowledge, ideas and best practices.
- AGA’s Young Professionals Program, June 27-29, will bring together next generation leaders of the natural gas industry and provide them with educational and networking opportunities.
