Director, Building Codes and Standards

About the Job

The Director, Building Codes & Standards spearheads efforts to ensure strategic support to AGA and its members for codes, standards, regulations, and legislation that support the use of natural gas for residential and commercial needs. This role is crucial for advocating and advancing building codes and standards that support the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible use of natural gas in end-use applications and markets.

What you will do:
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and implications to help identify short-term and long-term strategies that will meet membership building energy codes and standards priorities.
  • This position offers an opportunity for impactful policy leadership, professional advancement, and contributing significantly to sustainability and innovation in a period of dynamic industry evolution.
  • Underscore the indispensable role of natural gas in meeting today’s energy demands while laying the groundwork for a sustainable and resilient energy future.
  • Develop and maintain a priority list of codes & standards issues to AGA member companies.
  • Oversee the development of a consensus position among AGA members on high-priority codes & standards issues.
  • Lead advocacy at model code organizations and appropriate standards bodies for the adoption of AGA’s positions.
What you will bring:
  • Demonstrated policy insight and a deep technical understanding of natural gas applications and energy-efficient technologies.
  • Experience and proven performance in developing and gaining adoption of codes and standards provisions and regulatory and legislative requirements that enhance the use of natural gas in Commercial businesses and residences.
  • Undergraduate degree as a minimum in engineering, comparable technical degree, or equivalent experience.
How we operate:

This role is based in Washington, DC where AGA employees currently have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely. The employee’s team determines one day each week, and the employee determines the others.

The Pay and Benefits:

For employees who live in the Washington, DC Metro area, the salary range for this position is $118,862 to $160,814 annually. Typically, new hires are brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and midpoint, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted salary for the role.

Director, Economic and Regulatory Analysis

About the Job 

The Director of Economic and Regulatory Analysis conducts economic research and analysis that advances the conversation on energy economics and technical regulatory strategy. The Director supports AGA’s analysis and monitoring of natural markets, the production of studies and reports on behalf of the natural gas utility industry, and in-depth technical analysis of the utility regulatory processes at the State level.  

What you will do: 

  • In collaboration with the Managing Director, Energy Analysis, prepare analysis and develop insights on energy economics and natural gas industries. 
  • Manage the periodic publication of natural gas market updates, providing insights to stakeholders on the state of the market. 
  • Create rate and regulatory analysis that advances the discussion on diverse regulatory topics, from commodity procurement to alternative forms of regulation.  
  • Administer essential survey data collection and analyses, including the creation of presentations and reports as necessary. 
  • Craft and present data-driven briefings and policy recommendations including analytical reports, whitepapers, and case studies to AGA staff, senior leadership, members, and other stakeholders on various topics such as technology adoption, energy efficiency, and decarbonization solutions.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant industry, legislative, and regulatory contacts. 
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills, including the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and conduct independent research, while ensuring competence in content management. 
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment and leverage strong interpersonal skills to build and advance professional relationships with stakeholders. 

What you will bring: 

  • At least ten years of experience working directly in economics, the energy sector, or in regulatory-related activities.  
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (Excel, Python, R) and report generation (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Power BI) for the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of energy and corporate data. 
  • Successful experience with public speaking to a wide range of stakeholders and in a wide range of platforms and forums.  
  • Experience in data collection, interpretation, and dissemination related to regulatory and energy policy and the ability to translate data and complex analysis into an actionable roadmap.  
  • Master’s degree or higher in economics, accounting, statistics, or a related field preferred.
