AGA: 108 Years of Excellence

108 years. That’s how long the American Gas Association has been working with the country’s natural gas utilities to ensure that customers have access to one of the safest, most affordable, and most reliable fuels on the market.
In our 108th year, natural gas utilities are providing fuel to 189 million Americans through a distribution system that is 2.8 million miles long. More than just a product, natural gas utilities are providing life-sustaining service to their customers – warming homes and keeping food on the table, all while helping keep costs low year-round. Today, more than one new residential customer signs up for natural gas service every minute on average, a testament to the value Americans place on affordable and reliable energy.
The tireless work that AGA and natural gas utilities put toward serving their communities makes an impact. Households that use natural gas for heating, cooking and clothes drying save an average of $1,030 per year compared to homes using electricity for those same applications. And behind every one of those customers is an industry that invests $37 billion annually to enhance the safety of the natural gas delivery system, ensuring reliable service for generations to come.
As the country celebrates its 250th birthday, natural gas utilities have become part of the backbone of the American economy and are a steadfast partner in fueling the American dream, for the last 108 years and for all the years to come.
