LNG Exports Benefit Americans

  • American liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports represent one of the most significant energy developments of the 21st century. The Shale Revolution unlocked vast reserves—quadrillions of cubic feet—of technically recoverable American natural gas, sufficient to meet both domestic demand and global exports for more than a century. This abundant resource positions American LNG as a cornerstone for economic growth at home and energy stability abroad.

AGA has long championed LNG exports as essential for stabilizing natural gas prices and ensuring reliable energy access for American consumers. By generating consistent demand, LNG exports help protect consumers from unexpected shifts, promoting predictable and stable natural gas prices. This stability gives producers confidence to invest in new drilling and infrastructure, guaranteeing steady supply chains and minimizing cost fluctuations for utility customers.

In a welcome development,  new LNG export projects are now receiving timely approval, signaling renewed support for this crucial component of America’s energy strategy. Recently, the Trump administration approved the Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) LNG export facility, underscoring a commitment to harnessing America’s energy abundance for both domestic prosperity and international stability.

The approval of CP2 and similar projects provides substantial economic benefits, including job creation, infrastructure investment, and increased trade revenues. Beyond the economic advantages, American LNG exports play a critical role in enhancing global energy security. By supplying allies with cleaner, more reliable energy, the U.S. significantly contributes to geopolitical stability and economic prosperity worldwide.

Exporting American LNG offers substantial environmental benefits globally. American natural gas is produced under some of the strictest environmental regulations, allowing international partners to transition from other energy sources to natural gas. Recent studies confirm that increased American LNG exports do not significantly raise global emissions—in fact, they typically reduce them by displacing fuels produced under less rigorous environmental standards abroad.

AGA continues advocating for transparent, evidence-based energy policy decisions that highlight the economic and environmental benefits of LNG exports. The recent approval of the CP2 facility marks a critical milestone in reinforcing America’s role as a global energy leader. It also serves as a powerful demonstration of the positive impact that thoughtful, timely approvals of LNG export projects can have for American families, the economy, and our international allies.

By supporting American LNG exports, policymakers affirm a forward-looking energy vision—one rooted in economic strength, environmental stewardship, and global stability.
