AGA Applauds Trump Administration NEPA Reforms, Calls for Congressional Action on Permitting

WASHINGTON – The American Gas Association applauds permitting reforms announced by the Trump administration on Monday. The reforms to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations help return NEPA to its original statutory intent to inform agency decisions rather than serve as a roadblock to paralyze vital infrastructure projects.

“These decisive actions by the Trump administration are critical to moving America’s energy future forward and ensuring that the energy industry can meet the demands of our growing economy. This significant step taken by the administration should be followed by Congress enacting additional permitting reforms that will permanently streamline essential natural gas infrastructure expansion to advance a secure energy future and underpin America’s economic competitive advantage,” said AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert.

Natural gas has been and will continue to be the cornerstone of America’s economy and energy independence with more than 100 years of abundant supply that has helped to insulate the American public from price volatility in energy markets across the globe. The natural gas industry is committed to investing, building and innovating for families and businesses who depend on safe, affordable, and reliable energy every minute of every day.
