American Gas Association Launches 2026 Playbook
WASHINGTON – The American Gas Association today announced the launch of its 2026 AGA Playbook. Updated annually, the Playbook is the industry’s premier source for information on the work America’s natural gas utilities do to benefit customer affordability, energy system safety and reliability and to protect our shared environment.
Key topline takeaways from the 2026 Playbook include:
- Natural gas utilities continue to add an average of more than one new residential customer every minute, with 189 million Americans and 5.8 million businesses relying on natural gas.
- America’s natural gas utilities spend $37 billion annually on enhancing the safety of natural gas distribution and transmission systems.
- Emissions from natural gas distribution pipelines have declined 70% since 1990.
- The average natural gas household saves $1,030 per year compared to their all-electric equivalent.
“We’re a growing industry that in recent years has become the backstop for energy system reliability and affordability alike,” said AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert. “At a time when Americans are concerned with rising costs, maintaining the affordability of natural gas is paramount. We’re the first five percent of the economy – and we take our responsibility in supporting the downstream 95% very seriously. The AGA Playbook is our progress report on how we’re successfully delivering on those responsibilities.”
