American Gas Association releases statement in advance of State of the Union address

The American Gas Association released the following statement ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union Address as affordability continues to lead the issues in Washington, D.C. and in the homes of everyday Americans:

“Natural gas utilities are fueling America and putting in the work to ensure that we remain the most affordable and reliable form of energy for American homes and businesses for decades to come. Natural gas is the most affordable way to heat your home this winter. Not only that, but our utilities have over a century of experience undertaking operational planning and preparation for extreme and emergency conditions, ensuring energy is available for families, critical infrastructure like hospitals and grocery stores, and businesses when it matters most.

“We are America’s strategic advantage in meeting growing energy demand while protecting reliability and affordability for American families and businesses. As we look towards America’s 250th birthday and the nation’s next 250 years, it is imperative that we remove blockades to infrastructure and unleash a renaissance of American growth and vitality. We look forward to working with President Trump and both parties in Congress to pass permitting reform and fuel America’s future,” said AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert.

Earlier this year, AGA held its State of American Natural Gas, highlighting the industry’s readiness to deliver affordable, accessible and reliable energy to fuel American prosperity, protect household budgets and ensure a strong economic future in the United States. AGA also released updated key statistics from the industry, including customer growth, system investments in safety and efficiency, reliability and affordability. Read AGA’s 2026 Playbook here.

The American Gas Association represents more than 200 local energy companies committed to the safe and reliable delivery of clean natural gas to more than 189 million Americans and 5.8 million businesses throughout the nation. In the United States today, natural gas meets more than one-third of the nation’s energy needs and is the most affordable source of energy for American families. Thanks to the resiliency of the natural gas delivery system, AGA member companies experienced no impact on operations from Winter Storm Fern, continuing to deliver life-saving energy and warmth to families across the country.
