Washington Post Letter to the Editor: Richard Meyer

Following recent coverage from the Washington Post about a study on natural gas stoves and asthma, AGA Vice President of Energy Markets, Analysis and Standards at the American Gas Association submitted a letter to the editor to provide additional context about the research and its findings.

The letter emphasizes the study did not establish a causal health benefit from replacing gas stoves or demonstrate chronic hazards associated with using natural gas. The study did not track actual stove use, cooking practices, ventilation behavior, changes in smoking or medication, physician visits or other clinical interventions and did not use a control group. It also highlights other peer-reviewed research showing no statistically significant increase in asthma risk associated with natural gas stoves compared to electric stoves.
