2025 AGA Best Practices Roundtable – Damage Prevention & Cross Bores

Nov 11, 2025 – Nov 13, 2025

During the Damage Prevention & Cross Bores Roundtable, participants will discuss the context of underground construction and utility installation, emphasizing the importance of avoiding serious risks and consequences. A key focus of this discussion will be on preventing and managing cross bores.

What is a Cross Bore?

A cross bore occurs when one underground utility line unintentionally intersects and potentially breaches another existing utility line during installation. This typically happens when using trenchless methods, such as directional boring. A common scenario involves new natural gas lines being bored through existing sewer lines.

The meeting will feature presentations from six member companies selected at the June Leaders Selection Conference. Additionally, there will be three interactive breakout sessions, during which attendees will respond to topic-specific questions and engage in discussions. Some of the specific topics covered may include reducing third-party damages, auditing field locations, and inspecting for cross-bores. Discussions may also include Technology, Training, Quality Assurance, and Performance Measures.
