2024 National Fuel Gas Code

The revision cycle for the 2024 National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 is in progress. Below are some recent actions. Use the links below to access process documents.

ANSI Approval of 2024 National Fuel Gas Code. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the 2024 National Fuel Gas Code (formally known as ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54-2024 National Fuel Gas Code) on November 1, 2023. The 2024 National Fuel Gas Code became available for purchase on January 26, 2024.
ANSI Public Review. The 45-day ANSI Public Review of Second Revision Draft of BSR Z223.1 / NFPA 54-2024 was announced on April 28, 2023. See the PDF version of the Second Revision Draft in the attachments below. Public Comments must be submitted using the 2nd Public Review Comment Form (attached below) by June 12, 2023 to Z223 Committee Secretary Luis Escobar at lescobar@aga.org.

Second Draft Meeting. NFPA has announced the First Draft Meeting (October 24-25, 2022). The in-person meeting will be in Pittsburgh, PA. See the meeting notice and agenda in the attachment below. Meeting conducted in accordance with the AGA Antitrust Compliance Guidelines.
ANSI Public Review. The 45-day ANSI Public Review of First Revision Draft of BSR Z223.1 / NFPA 54-2024 was announced on April 15, 2022. See the PDF version of the First Revision Draft in the attachments below. Public Comments must be submitted by May 30, 2022 via NFPA’s TerraView system at www.nfpa.org/54 (click the “Submit a Public Comment” link).

Pre-First Draft Meeting and First Draft Meeting. NFPA has announced the Pre-First Draft Meeting (August 12, 2021) and First Draft Meeting (September 13-28, 2021). The virtual meetings was held on Microsoft Teams. See details in the attachments below. Draft minutes posted: November 11, 2021.
Public Input Period. The 2024 NFGC is now open for public input. Submit public input online via the NFPA standards development site (requires NFPA setting up an account).
PINS. The Project Inition Notification for the 2024 National Fuel Gas Code was published in the ANSI Standards Action e-newsletter on May 21, 2021. The 30-day public comment period closes on June 21, 2021. Please submit comments to Z223 Secretary Luis Escobar at lescobar@aga.org.
