July 10th is Chronic Disease Day, and roughly one in six Americans will be affected by chronic disease at some point in their life. According to the CDC, chronic diseases are defined broadly as conditions that last one year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both. The millions of Americans who are affected by chronic disease may require ongoing medical care, whether that be in patient assistance, increased pharmaceutical use, or even support from medical technology. Natural gas is a reliable partner in this care, helping keep costs lower and treatment available for those living with chronic disease. 

The purpose of this document is to identify factors that should be considered by natural gas operators when collecting or creating records during the life of a steel transmission pipeline. This document offers guidance on types of records needed to document that a pipeline is designed to be in accordance with §192.103 and §192.105.

The purpose of this white paper is to provide guidance on how operators can proactively help improve their existing damage prevention programs and provide potential components of a damage prevention program that build off what may be minimally required by existing law. While readers should consider 811 messaging as a fundamental part of their plan, this paper aims to identify additional actions that operators can take to drive down excavation-related damages to their system.
